Perfect Paws by Heather was born from my love for animals and my desire to bring compassionate, professional care directly into homes. As a Registered Veterinary Technician, I’ve seen so many pet parents turning to Dr. Google for answers — and too often, that advice wasn’t safe. Pets were coming into clinics with preventable issues, and families were stressed, confused, or even scared.
During the pandemic, veterinary clinics were overwhelmed with the influx of newly adopted pets, and basic care needs that didn’t necessarily require a clinic visit were adding to the strain. I knew there had to be a better way to ease that burden.
I started helping more families at home and saw firsthand how much pets and their people needed guidance and hands-on care. Many pet parents felt unsure or even silly asking their veterinary care team certain questions, and I wanted to create a space where every question is welcomed and answered with care.
What started as a side project quickly became a full-time calling. At the same time, working in a busy clinic as a head surgery lead had taken its toll — compassion fatigue and burnout were real. I wanted a way to still be there for animals, share my knowledge, and spend more meaningful time with my children, my pets, and my aging family.
As my career continued, I developed a deep interest in behavioral medicine and in finding ways to make veterinary care less stressful for pets. One thing I noticed — something I couldn’t always fix in the clinic — was how overwhelming the environment could be. The excitement before a car ride, the stress of getting into the car, the unfamiliar sounds and smells, and being around other animals all built up anxiety before pets were even seen by the veterinarian. By the time they reached the exam room, many pets were already exhausted and stressed, making it harder to care for them effectively. I knew that if I could remove these key stress factors, we could make a real difference and help manage their anxiety in a meaningful way.
Perfect Paws by Heather, RVT, gave me that balance. I get to care for pets in the comfort of their own homes, build trust with them, and educate their families so they feel confident and supported. I’m also grateful to still collaborate with local veterinary teams, which allows me to stay up-to-date on medical knowledge and ensure that every pet receives the safest, most informed care possible.
Bridging the gap between veterinary care in the clinic and at home, I provide trusted guidance and support so pet parents no longer have to rely on Dr. Google or risk misinformation.
This business is more than a career — it’s my heart in action. Every wag, purr, and happy tail reminds me why I started this journey: to make a difference for pets and the people who love them, one paw at a time.
